Audi A3 (2008 – 2012) At A Glance. Good choice of engines. Some petrol engines now chain cam. Comfortable and well built interior. cheap to run 1.6 TDI. Feels very refined especially on the motorway. Doesn't handle as well as some other premium hatchbacks. All diesels remain belt cam.
A well-maintained diesel engine can easily go 400–500,000 miles. Assuming all other factors are the same (cost, repairs, etc.), this car has already saved around $13,300 over 9 years, or an average of $1,488 per year in fuel costs alone (20,000 miles / 42 mpg = 476.2 * $3.44/gal = $1,638/year).

How long can 2.0 TDI engine last? Large heavy duty turbo diesel engines will last 500,000 miles or more. Turbo engines are usually built stronger than regular naturally aspirated engines, so as long as they are maintained properly, they’ll run for a long time.
Start the car in the winter, let it idle for a minute or so to get the fluids moving then set off. Keep the engine under 4,000 RPM until it's warmed up. This is generally thought of as the quickest and preferred way to warm up the engine on cold days. Reply Like. 12-14-2019, 02:00 PM.
IIRC, VW engineers supposedly don't consider an ALH TDI engine to have high miles on it until 500k miles. That's when it has reached half of its rated life. The engine will easily go the distance, provided it has been maintained properly and nothing takes it it out early. How long can a properly maintained TDI engine last?
