The device will be underwhelming and boring. The iPhone 8 body has been outdated since long back and it was barely acceptable in 2020, let alone again in 2022. This year the phone will be 5G capable and also more powerful but still, the chassis will make it underwhelming.

The 8 Plus is actually heavier, taller, and wider than the XR. The 8 Plus is only smaller in one dimension: it’s 0.8 mm thinner. So, the XR otherwise gets you a newer, more powerful phone with a larger screen in a smaller, lighter body.
The iPhone is absolutely amazing for people who can afford it and who don't tinker much. If you want a stable, long-term phone, get the iPhone.
